June 2003
PRIDE IN SEBASTIAN
Community Beautification Awards

Amidst the recent flourish of construction activity within our community, two standouts were recognized and honored at a recent City Council meeting with the City's bi-annual beautification award. The property owners and their respective contractors received public acknowledgement from the mayor in the form of certificates, which were inscribed as follows: "The Pride in Sebastian Award presented this 25th day of June, 2003, to 1013 Indian River Drive - Mr. and Mrs. Willard Siebert & MGB Construction, and Wisner Controls - Mr. Rick Wisner & Capp Custom Builders in appreciation for the significant and valuable contribution to the City's appearance and heritage and in acknowledgment of the recipient's ability to harmonize the City's vision." Signed Walter W. Barnes, Mayor."

Mr. and Mrs. Siebert's residence, built by MGB Construction, Inc., on Indian River Drive was recognized as the first recipient in the "new home construction" category for it's compatible waterfront design constructed amongst the beautiful Oak hammock. The residence has an inviting wrap-around front terrace, columns, arched windows, metal roofing, and a rear yard garage. The Siebert's have been residents of Indian River County and the Sebastian area for over 50 years. They have seen many changes throughout the years and appreciate the beautiful community Sebastian is growing into. The City recognized their efforts as their design exemplifies the design principles the community desires and appreciates.

1204 Main Street, immediately across the street from City Hall, recently experienced a metamorphosis as the property benefited from the addition of an architecturally appealing structure. Mr. Rick Wisner, owner of Wisner Controls, coordinated his efforts with local builder Capp Custom Builders in designing this significant addition to the Main Street corridor. Challenges were present during construction however as the new building was first constructed around the existing structure, which was eventually demolished to accommodate completion of the new structure. The new building with its metal-hip roof, grand columns, native landscaping, and inviting brick paver sidewalk, captures the attention of those driving down Main Street or visiting City Hall.

December 2002
PRIDE IN SEBASTIAN
Community Beautification Awards

"The Pride in Sebastian Award presented this 11th day of December, 2002, to The Sea Crest Building- Mr. Vance Houdyshell, and The Village, Phase I - Robert Bruno in appreciation for the significant and valuable contribution to the City's appearance and heritage and in acknowledgment of the recipient's ability to harmonize the City's vision." Signed Walter W. Barnes, Mayor.

The City Council Chamber's "Wall of Fame" received two new additions in December with the recent winners of Sebastian's beautification award program being recognized at the City Council meeting with a well deserved round of applause from the council members and the public.

The Village, a phased development, envisioned by Robert Bruno of IPS Ventures, Inc. has begun with the attractive remodeling of the historic former building located at 1101 U.S. Highway #1. A new metal roof, building colors, cornices, a columned entryway and new porch railings transformed the building beautifully to win the Pride in Sebastian Renovation award for Mr. Bruno's efforts to materialize the Riverfront's Overlay's intentions. Construction has begun on the next phase of the project with the approved plans matching the quality and detail of the initial building.

As one of the largest, newest retail/office centers in Sebastian, the Sea Crest Building proves "big" does not have to be ugly (an eyesore). Using soft colors, metal roofing, cupolas, and landscaping, Mr. Vance Houdyshell of Sea Crest Construction, Inc. developed a visually-pleasing 14,400 sq. foot, seven-unit building.

June 2002
PRIDE IN SEBASTIAN
Community Beautification Awards

"The Pride in Sebastian Award presented this 26th day of June, 2002, to 512 Commerce Center-Mr. Jim Adams, and KH Plaza - David and Sherry Brown in appreciation for the significant and valuable contribution to the City's appearance and heritage and in acknowledgment of the recipient's ability to harmonize the City's vision." Signed Walter W. Barnes, Mayor.

he recipients of Sebastian's reestablished beautification award program were given a warm round of applause at the City Council meeting when Mayor Barnes shook their hands and presented them their certificates. Recipients expressed their pleasure at being a part of the Sebastian community.

Dave and Sherry Brown's KH Plaza was the former Ed Schlitt/Coldwell Banker building located at the intersection of Truman Street and U.S. #1. Working with staff, the Browns turned the white and blue building into an architectural renovated landmark by painting the structure yellow and green, adding metal roofing, cupolas, Bahamian hurricane shutters, and beautiful tropical murals between two sections. Even the new monument sign topped with wooden pineapples reflect the friendly attitude Dave and Sherry embrace as business owners within the City.

Unlike classic uninspired building designs associated with traditional commercial office parks, Mr. Jim Adams' vision for the multi-phased 512 Commerce Center involves pastel colored and nicely landscaped commercial buildings. The project includes three office buildings, four contractor trades buildings, two storage buildings and an outside boat and RV storage area to the rear of the property. The first three buildings have been constructed using stucco siding, metal roofing, and ample landscaping. Mr. Adams carefully and cooperatively designed his project to meet all architectural guidelines established within the 512-development district, while simultaneously setting a new standard for building design along the now thriving Sebastian Boulevard.
