Albert Iovino was born in Rochester New York to Albert Iovino Sr, a well-known musician, and World War II veteran, and Carole Jones, a housewife. Albert started his career in law enforcement in 1996 with the Lauderhill Police department. Early on in his career, he was instrumental in making multiple drug and DUI arrests. In 2002 Officer Iovino started with the Indian River County Sheriff’s office working road patrol, continuing his record of multiple DUI arrests. He quickly moved up the ranks and was promoted in June of 2007 to Sergeant. In July of 2011, he moved from road patrol and was placed in charge of the traffic unit. He attended numerous training courses include Traffic Homicide investigator, Traffic Reconstructionist, Standardized Field Sobriety testing, Motor officer school and more.
While with the Sheriff’s office he worked hand in hand with traffic engineering, DOT, and the metropolitan planning organization board to revise and improve traffic, roadways, pedestrian crossings and more. He organized and supervised multi-agency DUI traffic enforcement operations as well. While with the Sheriff’s office, Officer Iovino received over 30 commendations for service and the lifesaving award/Medal of Honor.
In 2014 Officer Iovino started with the Indian River Shores Department of Public safety in where he recently obtained his firefighter certification and paramedic license. There he attended Advanced Roadside Impairment detection course, and is a classified nationally and worldwide as a Drug Recognition Expert. Albert is currently working on a program that would recognize when senior citizens can no longer manage at home and provide them with resources to improve their living conditions. Another issue he is passionate about is the pandemic of opioid overdoses that are currently being seen at the county, state, and national level. He is currently working on a task force that is developing a plan to address this issue at a local level.
Officer Iovino is also a current emergency room trained registered nurse and has been since May of 2006, with current licensing to include: Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life support and, Pediatric Advanced Life support certifications.
During his off-duty time, Albert enjoys restoring classic cars and spending time with family. He was close with his Dad and doted on his late father until his death in October 2016. Albert and his father were truly the best of friends...
